Today your child learned about a basic database and completed an activity on paper to create their own database about loose teeth.

Computers 2-8

Today your child learned how to put together the components of their movies using iMovie. Tomorrow they will be finishing up their movies for the movie preview on Thursday.

If you are free on Thursday, we would love for you to join us for the movie previews. We will begin the discussion at 10:05 and start showing the videos around 10:15. I hope you can join us!

Computers K-1

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July break!

Today your child explored some websites in a scavenger hunt. This activity can be found on Growing with Technology and then clicking on the grade your child is going into.

Computers 2-8

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July break!

Today your child learned how to use the paint brush tool and change colors in Adobe Photoshop. This is a very simple process in a very complex program. Your child worked with their group to add color, add detail, or take out the background of some of their photos.

Tomorrow we will begin putting together their movies to show on Thursday.

Computers K-1

Yesterday your child learned how to make a basic slide in Power Point. They had to choose at least one clip art image to put on their slide and then add a title. Copies of their slides will go home with them today since we didn't get them printed and handed out before the end of class yesterday.

Computers 2-8

Today your child worked on typing the Bottom Row Keys. We discussed which fingers you use to type each letter on the bottom row and then they practiced in Typing Web.

Any group work that was unfinished was worked on, and anyone who was done with their other work explored Garage Band today.  Tomorrow they will get an introduction to Garage Band and create music for their movies.

Computers K-1

Yesterday your child learned how to use a simple spreadsheet template. We worked with the Growing with Technology website in Level 1. Many children understood this project quickly, while others could use some more practice. If you have time at home, please consider working on the spreadsheet project in Level 1 or Level 2 with your child. The spreadsheet activity is the piece of paper on the child's desk.

Computers 2-8

Yesterday your child learned about the Top Row Keys on the keyboard, including which fingers to use to type each letter. They worked on the Typing Web website to practice.

Some groups still had work to finish up, so when they were finished with their Typing Web lesson they worked on their group work.

Computers K-1

First of all, I am sorry that this blog has not been updated since last week. Some of my posts didn't publish last week for some reason. Here is the update.

June 23- We did more keyboarding practice using the Growing with Technology website. First we looked at the Level 2 computer to talk about parts of the computer, and then they went to the grade level they are going into to work on keyboarding skills. If you have time, please consider having your child practice the keyboarding skills at home.

June 27- The children spent some time working in Word to write 3 sentences about themselves. The directions for the assignment can be found on the Growing with Technology website under Level 1, in the Diary. If your child did not bring home their sentences, they were either left by their computer or they didn't finish in time to print them out. They will be sent home today.

June 23- The children worked with Comic Life to create a story board for their movie.

June 27- The children had a work day to finish up any lingering work. Most got caught up, but some groups will have to catch up during "free choice" time this week.

June 21 and June 22

Yesterday we used Photobooth to take photos and then iPhoto to adjust the photos. They turned out wonderfully. The 2nd-8th grade group started writing their stories using Word.

Today everyone started a short typing segment. Your child will be learning the basics of keyboarding through a paper keyboard and Dance Mat Typing.

Computers K-1

First, I want to apologize for any frustration your child may feel as a result of class today. I had a lot of things planned for them to do, only to find out that everything was blocked on their computer log-ins. Please remember that all the links that your child will be using are posted to the right, and are available for you to check out at your own convenience, or for your child to use/practice with at home.

Today your child watched a video that read the book Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type, and then played some games related to the book. If you have a chance, please help your child play Click Clack Moo Hangman (link to right), as it was blocked even on my computer account, but is actually a fun and educational game!

Today we started work using our "lemonade stand" theme, where your child watched a video about starting a lemonade stand and then, hopefully, was able to play a lemonade stand game.

Welcome!

Welcome to our class blog for the Computers summer school class! I will be posting our activities for the day, links to the websites we used, and links for any handouts that are used. As the family of a child in my class, please consider checking this blog daily and having your child show, or tell you, what they worked on in class that day. Please note that there will be posts for two classes on this blog so you will want to check the title of the post for your child's grade level for appropriate information.

As this is an informational blog, please feel free to use the comments section under the post to ask questions or network with other families in the class. I will answer any questions that are asked as soon as possible, but after 10pm I will not respond until the next morning.

I am very excited to have your child in my class for the next 3 weeks!
